In the data from Cancer Registry of the Republic of Croatia (2015), cancer is the second most important cause of death, making it a significant problem for population of Croatia. The process of diagnosing a malignant disease is an anxious time for the patient. People who have survived cancer face many psychosocial and physical difficulties, body image problems, problems with sexuality, stress, depression. Arts-expressive therapies in psychosocial oncology deal with emotions that are caused by the diagnosis of malignant disease. In psychosocial oncology a person is viewed as a biopsychosocial being an the goal is that the persons adapts completely to the new situation. Therapy can be group or individual, and it can also include the whole family. The focus is on processing emotions due to the losses that the malignant illness bring and adjusting to body image changes. Within arts-expressive psychoterapy various metods can be used, such as music therapy, art-therapy, bibliotherapy, dance movement therapy, drama and psychodrama, film therapy, guided imagery, breathing exercises. The aim of this review is to present knowledge and research in the field of arts-expressive therapies and different art media working with people with malignant illness. The aim is to show possibilities of applying arts-expressive therapies in psychosocial oncology through the influence of music, film, image, words and other on humans
