In order to be able to access Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), trajectory of typical development of communication and language must be known. That makes a chance for early intervention providers to react on time and in valid way. Because of emerging number of children with ASD, there is a greater number of different avaliable treatments which differ in evidence-based practice. As a response, social communication, emotional regulation and transactional support model was developed, as a comprehensive, family-centered approach for children with ASD. SCERTS model is designed to address the key areas of difficulty experienced by young children on the autism spectrum. It has a significant research basis and is consistent with evidence-based practice (Prizant, Wetherby, Rubin, Laurent i Rydell, 2006). As an inclusive framework, the SCERTS model can incorporate a wide range of different interventions. Learning is viewed as socially mediated with an emphasis on social partners (family, peers, teachers) who provide appropriate scaffolding to enable the child to successfully learn and acquire skills in naturally emerging situations (O’Neill, 2012). Cooperation between parents and specialist is crucial in intervention process and one of goals of this model was to provide families and educational teams the help they may need to feel successful in supporting the child. Because the model addresses core deficits or challenges definitive of ASD, it can be applied flexibly to a range of children who have varying degrees of disability in cognitive, communicative, sensory processing and regulatory capacities. The aim of this model is to determine purposeful, meaningful and motivating goals and strategies based on a child’s developmental stage, functional needs, and family priorities, all for main purpose of helping children progress to become competent social communicators. It offers an important and new contribution to currently available approaches by establishing clear priorities in the areas of social communication, emotional regulation and transactional support, in a way that addresses the complex interdependencies among these most crucial areas. In this manner, the model reflects a new conceptualization of treatment that most closely addresses the core deficits observed in ASD and therefore represents an example of the “next generation”of treatment approaches for ASD.
