Cancer is one of the leading public health, medical and social problems in the world and in Croatia. Today cancer is ranked as a second most common cause of death, right after cardiovascular diseases and the number of cancer patients is in constant increase. Besides the physical aspects caused by cancer treatment, today more and more emphasis is put on the quality of the oncological patient, which can get highly damaged after getting diagnosed and then treatments. This area is being delt by a relatively young interdisciplinary field called psychosocial-oncology. It represents a field of multidisciplinary interest in cancer treatment because besides psychological aspects, it includes social, emotional,behavioral and ethical factors which can affect the quality of life. Because of the cancers biological complexity there is a need of interdisciplinary treatment approaches. The biggest importance is no longer put on the medical model of treatment and symptoms, but on the holistich approach towards the patient. The aim of the treatment is curing or controling the disease by having best possible quality of life. There are many different fields studying the life quality of oncological patients, but the educational rehabilitation field can use its influence and work through different aspects of art-creative therapy. Positive correlation between usage of creative media and oncological patient`s well-being has been proven in many researches. Croatia more and more recognizes and research the positive influence of creative expression in cancer treatment. There are different forms of expressive therapies being applied for instance: art therapy, music therapy, dance and movement therapy, drama therapy and bibliotherapy, which combined with medical treatment show a positive influence on life quality, general well-being, psihological and social aspects of cancer.
