Abstract | Cilj ovog rada je utvrditi odnos nepovoljnih iskustava u djetinjstvu (NID), prorade tih iskustava savjetovanjem/psihoterapijom i zadovoljstva životom kod profesionalnih pomagača.
Podaci korišteni u ovom radu prikupljeni su u sklopu istraživanja Otpornost stručnjaka različitih profesija, online putem pomoću Lime Survey-a tijekom svibnja, lipnja i srpnja 2020. godine.
Abstract (english) | The main goal of this paper is to determine the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), its processing through counselling/psychotherapy and life satisfaction among professional helpers. The research seeks to determine the prevalence of adverse childhood experiences, level of its processing, prevalence of participation in counselling or psychotherapy and the level of life satisfaction among professional helpers. Furthermore, it seeks to determine whether there are statistically significant correlations between mentioned constructs.
The data obtained in this paper were collected as part of the research Resilience of professionals of various professions online, through Lime Survey during the May, June and July of 2020. It was based on a convenient sample of N = 622 professional helpers from which N = 239 were social workers (38,4%), N = 148 psychologists (23,8%), N = 139 social pedagogues (22,3%) and N = 96 pedagogues (15,4%). The instrument consisted of 1) The questionnaire of sociodemographic data, 2) Revised Inventory of Adversive Childhood Experience (Finkelhor, Shattuck, Turner and Hamby, 2015), 3) The questionnaire of ACE processing (designed for the purpose of this research) and 3) single-item to examine life satisfaction, taken from Personal Wellbeing Index (International Wellbeing Group, 2013). Data were analysed via descriptive statistics (arithmetic mean, standard deviation, response frequency) and Spearmans’s correlation coefficient.
Results show that 68,9% of the helpers in this sample experienced at least one ACE. In total, 18,8% of the helpers experienced four or more ACEs which presents an extremely high risk for negative developmental outcomes. Results indicate that helpers in this sample have a relatively high level of processing ACEs and high life satisfaction. Furthermore, it shows that only 31,2% helpers have participated in counselling/psychotherapy related to ACEs. Also, research suggests that there is low, but statistically significant negative correlation between the number of ACEs and life satisfaction (r = -.201; p < 0.05) as well as statistically significant low positive correlation between the number of ACEs and participating in counselling/psychotherapy (r = .271; p < 0.05) and significant low positive correlation between processing ACEs and life satisfaction (r = .190; p < 0.05). However, what didn’t prove to be statistically significant is correlation between life satisfaction and participating in counselling/psychotherapy as well as correlation between processing ACEs and participating in counselling/psychotherapy. |
