Abstract | Oralna higijena je vrlo važna kako zbog oralnog tako i zbog općeg zdravlja pojedinca.
Abstract (english) | Oral hygiene is very important for both oral and general health of the individual. The
basic object of maintaining oral hygiene is the toothbrush, which first appeared in the sixteenth
century. It was made from boar bristles that were inserted into wood or bone. Over the years,
production has progressed, so the toothbrush itself has also progressed as a result. This is
precisely why it is becoming more available and is now widespread in most countries. Today,
there is a wide selection of brushes on the market, so everyone can find the one that suits them.
Fibers made of nylon have their own lifespan, so the brush should be changed every 2-3 months.
Therefore, the degree of fibers wear depends not only on the force with which the teeth are
brushed, but also on the individual's brushing technique. There are several brushing methods:
horizontal, vertical, Bass's, Fones's, Stillman's, Chartes's, Watanabe's, and some of them are
also modified.
The first electric toothbrush was produced in 1938, and to this day great progress has been
recorded not only in design, but also in the way it works. We can divide them according to type:
vibrating and oscillating-rotating, and according to the speed of operation: standard, sonic,
ultrasonic and ion. In order to motivate individuals to practice oral hygiene, today's
toothbrushes are designed to facilitate their use. |
