Abstract | Oralno zdravlje predstavlja sastavni dio općeg zdravlja i važan je čimbenik ukupne kvalitete života. Veličina interdentalnog prostora, konture i konzistencija gingivalnih tkiva, smještaj i pozicija zuba, motiviranost i motorička sposobnost pacijenta, te sama denticija, presudni su faktori u procjeni i odabiru interdentalnih sredstava. |
Abstract (english) | Oral health is an important part of general health and is an important factor in overall quality of life. Inflammatory periodontal diseases and caries are considered to be the most common chronic diseases in the human population. By oral hygiene maintenance, using mechanical and chemical agents, reduce the accumulation of biofilm and its mineralization. The basic and most effective way to remove biofilm is to mechanically clean teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Since the toothbrush cannot clean the approximal and interproximal areas of the teeth as effeciently as the buccal, lingual and occlusal surfaces, a variety of means for interdental tooth hygiene have been developed throughout history, such as: dental floss, interdental brushes, tooth picks, interdental stimulators and oral irrigators. Each patient needs to choose an mean for interdental hygiene individually because not all means are suitable for each patient. The size of the interdental space, the contours and consistency of the gingival tissues, the placement and position of the teeth, the motivation and motor ability of the patient, and the dentition itself, are crucial factors in assessing and selecting interdental means.
