Introduction: Morton’s neuroma is the name for a benign lesion within the digital nerve in the foot and is one of the most common causes of metatarsalgia. It mostly occurs in women between the ages of 40 and 50 and is associated with wearing high heels and activities such as running. Such persistent activities as well as the poor footwear choice bring the foot into a position of compression of the front of the foot, which ultimately leads to pressure and thickening of the nerves in the intermetatarsal space. Procedure: Scientific articles and other literature on the topic of physiotherapy in Morton's neuroma were searched. Literature in printed form as well as online form of electronic databases (GOOGLE SCHOLAR, SCOPUS, MEDLINE) was used to gain new insights into the process of physical therapy in Morton's neuroma. Overview: Although the exact causes of neuroma have not been confirmed, factors and conditions such as foot irritation, nerve damage, nerve compression and foot deformity are conducive to neuroma formation. Neuroma formation mostly appears in the second and third intermetatarsal space, since these spaces are much smaller in relation to the first and fourth intermetatarsal space. Symptoms associated with a neuroma are usually pains near the head of the metatarsal bone. These pains become more painful by walking, that is, by movement, and relieved either by the rest or by the cessation of activities. Palpation of the affected area causes pain that often radiates to the toes. The diagnosis of Morton's neuroma is based on anamnesis and clinical examination. The treatment is continued upon the diagnosis. Conclusion: Initially, neuroma is treated conservatively, by methods such as changing shoes, using orthopaedic insoles and physical therapy. In case of unsuccessful conservative treatment, treatment is continued surgically. Surgical treatment can also result in failure and therefore the correct diagnosis is of increasing importance.
