Study goal: To examine the most common time thieves in the daily work of nurses, to explore whether there are differences regarding workplace at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, the Internal Disease Clinic and the Clinic of Surgery and to examine whether there are differences regarding gender, age, level of education and years of service. Study design: A cross- sectional study. Subjects and methods: The study involved 110 respondents employed at the Clinical Hospital Centre Osijek at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, the Clinic of Surgery and the Internal Disease Clinic. Using the survey questionnaire respondents were asked about the most common time thieves during their daily work. A questionnaire My Time Thieves was used for obtaining data. Results: Results of 110 respondents (of whom 94 women and 16 men) have been processed. Respondents cited 'telephone’ as the most common time thief, while 'saying no’ often or almost always distracts them. 'Procrastination disease’ is sometimes a time thief for a significantly larger number of men than women for whom 'procrastination disease' almost never happens. For men 'paperwork’ almost always or often steals time, whereas for women it almost never does. 'Goal setting’ and 'self- discipline’ are the rarest thieves of time. 'Visitor’ and 'delegation’ are more frequent time thieves than 'meeting’, 'delay disease’, 'priorities’ 'paperwork’ and 'deadlines’. Conclusion: The most common time thieves in the daily work of nurses are ‘telephone’ and ‘saying no’. ‘Telephone’ is the most common time thief for respondents from the Clinic of Infectious Diseases. For men ‘paperwork’ is almost always or often a time thief, whereas for women it almost never is. There are no significant differences among respondents regarding their age, level of education and years of service.
