Glavni su zadatci zdravstvenog sustava u prenatalnom razdoblju daljnja statistička mjerenja u ciljanoj populaciji, pravovremeno prepoznavanje pojavnosti simptoma i pravovremeno pružanje psihološke podrške.
Abstract (english) Objective: To examine the presence and occurrence of depressive symptoms in pregnant women in the area of Zagreb and Zagreb County, in order to raise awareness of this problem and influence the way to provide the necessary support to pregnant women and their environment in time.
Study Design: Cross-sectional study.
Participants and Methods: The target population in this research includes women with a confirmed pregnancy, including all 9 months or 42 weeks of pregnancy, and beyond 42 weeks in the case of a post-term pregnancy. In addition to the pregnancy status, a criterion for participation was the place of residence of the participants. The subjects of this research were pregnant women residing in the City of Zagreb or Zagreb County.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of 6 months from July 1 to December 31, 2023, in the City of Zagreb and Zagreb County. The study included pregnant women from 12 gynaecological clinics providing primary healthcare for women in the City of Zagreb and 7 gynaecological clinics providing primary healthcare for women in Zagreb County. The study consisted of a questionnaire containing the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale, sociodemographic data, and clinical data.
Results: The study determined the incidence of depressive symptoms in pregnant women. A statistically significant difference was found in the existence and severity of depressive symptoms in pregnant women with different sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. After conducting the research, a statistically significant difference was found in the increased results of the Zung Scale scores concerning all clinical characteristics and sociodemographic characteristics (P = < 0.001).
Conclusion: The occurrence of depressive symptoms in pregnant women can be an indicator of the development of a serious mental condition in women. Prenatal care was developed to protect both the mother and the child, so it is extremely important that symptoms of depression in pregnant women stop being presented as minor changes in pregnancy that are normalized, neglected, and thus dismissed as a problem and a reason to seek support and help. The main tasks of the health system in the prenatal period are further statistical measurements in the target population, timely recognition of the incidence of symptoms, and timely provision of psychological support.
