Abstract
U radu je istaknuta važnost kompresije slike u modernom digitalnom svijetu, s obzirom na rastuću potrebu za pohranjivanjem i prijenosom velike količine vizualnih podataka. Objašnjeni su tradicionalni postupci kompresije, poput JPEG, GIF i PNG formata, s naglaskom na njihove prednosti, nedostatke, te matematičke modele i algoritme koji ih podržavaju. Temeljni dio ovog rada usmjeren je na istraživanja u području neuronskih mreža – vrste neuronskih mreža, njihove arhitekture i funkcije, te način na koji se mogu iskoristiti za izvedbu i poboljšanje sustava za kompresiju slike. Provedena je implementacija neuronske mreže, utemeljene na modelu konvolucijskog autoenkodera. Model je treniran s ciljem što boljeg generiranja kvantitativnih metrika za ocjenu kvalitete slike, poput PSNR i SSIM. Na kraju su prikazani kvantitativni rezultati, vizualni prikazi originalnih i rekonstruiranih slika, te je proces treniranja modela kroz epohe predstavljen u tabličnom obliku.
Abstract (english)
The thesis highlights the importance of image compression in the modern digital world, given the growing need for storing and transmitting large amounts of visual data. Traditional compression methods such as JPEG, GIF, and PNG are explained, emphasizing their advantages, disadvantages, and the mathematical models and algorithms that support them. The core of this paper focuses on research in the field of neural networks – the types of neural networks, their architectures and functions, and how they can be utilized to develop and improve image compression systems. The implementation of a neural network based on a convolutional autoencoder model has been carried out. The model was trained with the goal of generating accurate quantitative metrics for assessing image quality, such as PSNR and SSIM. Finally, quantitative results are presented, along with visual comparisons of original and reconstructed images, and the training process of the model through epochs is displayed in tabular form.
