In today's world, the blockchain technology finds more and more application. Technological area in which it possesses a great potential for usage is the distribution of electrical energy. The existing electrical energy distribution system experiences numerous problems, of which its centralisation and impeded integration of renewable energy production present the most difficulties. Additionally, great quantities of energy are lost in transport. On the other hand, microgrids represent the way in which it is possible to integrate distributed energy sources, i. e. numerous smaller renewable energy producers, into the existing electrical energy production structures; to raise the security of energy supply and to increase the amount of renewable energy sources in the structure of the generated electrical energy. Due to its geographical location, Croatia has a great potential for the implementation of microgrids in its electrical energy distribution system, especially in remote areas, as well as in places where the higher energy autonomy is desired. Within this master thesis, a review of currently used technologies in context of blockchain as trade mechanism for peer-to-peer energy trade is given, as well as the review of its most significant applications in the world in the context of energy technologies. Obtained results are used for the purpose of design of an analogous platform in Croatia. The simplified Matlab interface demonstrates the justification of the chosen approach. Finally, the guidelines for the further research work on this platform are provided.
