The last stage in cement manufacturing is its warehousing into a silo and further distribution toward packaging lines and shipping tankers. For the presentation of the cement distribution system a functional description of the process was provided by the equipment manufacturer. The description was adapted to the real situation. The S88 standard was implemented into the control system which is by its software and hardware features based on preprogrammed components in the control system and preperformed SCADA system components which are combined into a whole in developing an application for a process. The system development was based on several MS Excel sheets which were used to enter data from the process scheme and from the list of process equipment used for defining all system components (a list of process components), together with data from the functional description of the process used for defining the system functioning (operation procedures of each part of the process). The development of the control system was carried out by using the RSLogix 5000 software package. The monitoring program, i.e. the SCADA system of the silo plant was developed on the Factory Talk platform (Rockwell software). The components working trends show the exploitation features, that is, the functioning of the system as a working whole. That makes them very usefel in getting an insight into the functioning of the system. The development of these applications has showed that in process automation the knowledge of different fields of technical sciences need to be used.
