The dataset contains network traffic statistics and ground-truth application-layer data corresponding to 7424 video sessions from the global OTT video streaming provider. The data was collected while streaming videos using the application on an Android device under network conditions emulated based on real network bandwidth logs. In total, 2030 videos had no user interactions executed during playback, 1749 videos were paused once during playback, 1808 videos were seeked forward at one point during playback, and 1837 videos were terminated before the video ended.
Methods (english)
We developed a framework for automated network- and application-layer data collection for adaptive video streaming services on mobile devices, which includes a user behavior simulation function, in order to collect large amounts of data with user interactions. The framework is used to automatically stream videos with the option of computer-assisted execution of various user interactions at random or predefined points during video playback. The laboratory testbed is designed to enable complete control over the data collection process: easy access to application- and network-layer data, automated video stream initiation, simulation of user interactions, and manipulation of network conditions.
