Abstract
U današnjem svijetu ubrzanog razvoja softvera, potrebe za ispunjavanjem sve većeg broja zahtjeva prema web-servisima te potrebe za globalnom dostupnosti tih web-servisa, popularnost mikroservisne arhitekture je u velikom porastu. Porast popularnosti može zahvaliti dobroj skalabilnosti, visokoj razini modularnosti te decentralizaciji politike. Za razliku od monolitne arhitekture, mikroservisni sustav podijeljen je na komponente s vrlo specifičnim zadaćama. Raspodjelom sustava na komponente nastaje problem komunikacije među komponentama. Jedan od najpopularanijih načina rješavanja tog problema je primjena REST-a. REST-om se mogu postići dobre performanse sustava, no kada se radi o malim količinama podataka, komunikacijskim kanalom prolazi veća količina “beskorisnih” nego “vrijednih” informacija. Jedna od alternativa REST-u je komunikacija porukama koja je idealna za komunikaciju malim porukama na principu objavi/pretplati. Uz to pogodna je i za komunikaciju s IoT uređajima te im olakšava komunikaciju sa mikroservisnim sustavima koji komuniciraju porukama. Tema ovog rada je definiranje slabih točaka komunikacije porukama, ponuditi rješenja za te probleme te ih implementirati na studijskom primjeru sustava.
Abstract (english)
In today's world of rapid software development, ever increasing need for globally available and rugged Web services, popularity of microservice architecture has highly increased owing it to great scalability, high level of modularity and decentralisation of policies. Compared to monolithic architecture, in microservice architecture systems are disassembled into small specialised components. However, dividing systems into small components causes problems in communication between these components. One of the most popular solution to this problem is modelling APIs based on the REST standard. Although REST systems have great performance, when it comes to sending small messages, their communication channel gets cluttered by “useless” information in message headers. So, communication based on event messaging patterns is a great alternative to exchanging small messages via REST, because it is based on publish/subscribe patterns. Most IoT devices use the same communication protocol, so it is easy to connect them to microservice systems using communication based on these patterns. This study explores downsides of using event messaging in microservice systems, suggests solutions to these downsides and implements them in a case study of the system.
