In this paper, the aim was to explain the basic concepts related to the occurrence of static electricity, the way it occurs, the reasons why it is created and to show the measurement of static electricity using the instrument SIMCO FMX-004. The first two chapters provide a theoretical basis on how to generate static electricity as well as its movement. The third chapter describes the problems created by static electricity and everything we want to protect ourselves from by introducing equipment for protection against static electricity. Attention is primarily focused on static electricity as a source of ignition in areas with explosive liquids and gases. This chapter also discusses the damage that static electricity causes to electronic elements. The fourth chapter presents in more detail ways to protect against the harmful effects of static electricity. This chapter mentions all the methods of protection used in rooms where electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive equipment is used, as well as an example of such a room. Floors are the most important topic of this chapter because the measurements shown in the sixth chapter are performed on them. The fifth chapter describes the SIMCO FMX-004 instrument used in this paper. Its functions and performance are presented in detail. There is also a description on ways of using this instrument in its two operating modes: Static electricity measurement and ion balance measurement. The sixth chapter presents the performed measurements and results in the form of tables and graphs obtained by walking on different floor designs and successive measurements of charge on rubberized footwear.
