Abstract
Memorijski sustav kao dio svakog računala je izuzetno važan i njegova uloga unutar računalnog sustava je opisana u uvodu. U prvom poglavlju teoretski je objašnjeno kako je memorijski sustav organiziran u obliku memorijske hijerarhije. Ukratko su opisani dijelovi memorijske hijerarhije i daje se usporedba kapaciteta, brzine i cijene memorijskih spremnika. Treće poglavlje obrađuje brzu priručnu memoriju – cache. Opisana je uloga cache memorije, kako je organizirana, koje razine sadrži te koje su njene efikasnosti. U zadnjem poglavlju dani su primjeri korištenja cache memorije unutar programa. Program množi matrice različitih dimenzija i mjeri vrijeme potrebno za izračun umnoška. Sve to dovodi do zaključa koliko je cache memorija važna za izvođenje programa i koliko povećava performanse izvođenja programa.
Abstract (english)
The memory system as a part of every computer is extremely important and its role within the computer system is described in the introduction. In the first chapter, it is theoretically explained how the memory system is organized in the form of a memory hierarchy. The parts of the memory hierarchy are briefly described and a comparison of the capacity, speed and price of memory storage is given. The third chapter deals with fast temporary memory - cache. It describes the role of cache memory, how it is organized, what levels it contains and what its efficiency is. In the last chapter, there are examples of using cache memory within the program. The program multiplies matrixes of different dimensions and measures the time required to calculate the product. All this leads to the conclusion of how important cache memory is for program execution and how much it increases the performance of program execution.
