Abstract
This BA paper shows how English syntax observes the premodification in noun phrases. Special emphasis is put on types of premodifying items and the sequence of those items both in English and Croatian languages. Taking into account that these two languages differ in wide range of aspects and that the level of phrase does not exist in Croatian syntax, English syntax is taken as a guiding principle for prescriptive approach to the subject matter and Croatian translation equivalents are investigated in terms of English rules. Theory is illustrated by a selection of simple examples in order to give a straight-forward overview of the subject matter, which finally leads to a conclusion that some instances apply to both languages, whereas some are strictly restricted to a certain language.
