The experience of existing and acting is something that all human beings have in common, through which we learn about our human nature and its complexity. The fact that man lives and exists together with others relates to another reality called ''community'' or ''society''. The goal of being and acting together is the common good. A concern for a human beings is not only a philosophical or sociological question but religious and, more precisely, theological question. As a response to the difficult situation in Europe and the world caused by two major ideologies, 18th century capitalist individualism and 19th century communist 187 collectivism, the Catholic Church started to develop its own social teaching. The strongest ipuls to that social teacing was given by Pope John Paul II. His philosophical investigation and theological vision based on Vatican II, especially the Conciliar document Gaudium et Spes, served him to criticize the phenomenological and political roots of the concept of solidarity, and to offer a new anthropological framework in which Christian solidarity plays an important role in realization of the Divine plan of salvation for all people. Practical aspects of it are expressed in his social encyclicals. In this context solidarity will be examined on global level as well as in Croatian context. Solidarity is a possible way of overcoming differences and problems. It is action-orientated without the negative connotations and possible confrontations of struggle. It is a call to live the Gospel in practice.
