Our current school system has not proved successful in educating gifted pupils, especially when we talk about artistically gifted pupils. Artistically gifted pupils are a group who also belong to pupils who need a special approach in their education. The aim of this study was to explore if classroom teachers and students as future teachers are capable for identifying artistically gifted pupils and explore the characteristics that should be expressed by the artistically gifted child. This research involved 160 participants, 80 classroom teachers and 80 students of the Teacher's study at the Faculty of Philosophy in Split. The results have shown that there is a statistically significant difference in the identification of artistically gifted pupils between teachers and students, respectively, the results show that teachers are significantly more competent in identifying artistically gifted pupils. Also, the results showed that both teachers and students share the view that artistically gifted pupils should have a highly developed imagination, possess a large number of visual ideas and show interest in figurative and abstract forms of artwork.
