Abstract
U ovom je radu prikazana lingvostilistička analiza drame Othello, Williama Shakespearea te dvaju hrvatskih prijevoda. Milan Bogdanović i Mate Maras služili su se različitim načinima prevođenja kako bi se približili izvorniku. U teoretskom dijelu rada daje se kratki uvid u život i djelo Williama Shakespearea. Nadalje, predstavljaju se i neke odlike teorije prevođenja kao i problemi s kojima se prevoditelji mogu susresti u svome radu. U drugoj polovici rada koja se bavi lingvostilističkom analizom drame i njenih prijevoda pokušava se utvrditi način na koji Shakespeare kroji dramsku priču, kojim se jezikom služi te koliko prijevodi uspijevaju prenijeti poznati Shakespeareovski stil hrvatskim čitateljima. Analiza se radila na nekim od jakih pozicija teksta (ključnih riječi, antonima, igre riječi, metafore, vulgarizama, seksualnih aluzija te metrike). Uspoređujući hrvatske prijevode teško je tvrditi da je jedan ispravniji od drugoga. No, možemo primijetiti kako Mate Maras u većoj mjeri drži originala, uspješno pronalazeći hrvatske ekvivalente za igre riječi. Također, za razliku od Milana Bogdanovića, Maras ima jako dobro poznavanje engleskog i hrvatskog jezika što njegov prijevod čini razumljivijim.
Abstract (english)
The thesis deals with William Shakespeare's Othello as well as its Croatian translations by Milan Bogdanović and Mate Maras. The emphasis is on the linguistic analysis of the original and its Croatian translations, noting the differences and similarities between the two. The theoretical part of the thesis provides a brief insight into William Shakespeare’s life and work. Since the thesis deals with translation analysis, the theoretical part has dealt with translation studies as well as the problems that translators may encounter during their work. The second part of the thesis deals with the linguistic analysis of Shakespeare’s plays its Croatian translations. The aim of the thesis is to establish how Shakespeare draws a dramatic storyline using language games and how Bogdanović and Maras deal with the challenge of translating the famous Shakespearean style to Croatian readers. The analysis was done on some of the strong text positions (keywords, antonym, language games, metaphors, vulgarisms, sexual allusion and metrics). It is hard to say that one Croatian translation is more correct than the other. However, it can be noticed that Mate Maras is successful at finding Croatian equivalents for the language games. Also, unlike Milan Bogdanović, Maras has a very good knowledge of English and Croatian language, which makes his translation more understandable.
