Abstract
Rad se bavi temom grčko perzijskih ratova, točnije obrađuje prvih deset godina rata, od jonskog ustanka zaključno s bitkom na Maratonu. Ovaj je rat uvjetovao formiranje svijeta kakvog poznajemo danas. Pojašnjava se značaj Herodota i njegovog djela Povijesti za interpretiranje samog rata, i predstavlja se situacija u kojoj su se nalazila dva najjača grčka polisa, Sparta i Atena i njima suprotstavljena Perzija neposredno prije izbijanja rata, a potom i položaj Grka koji su se naselili u Maloj Aziji. Nadalje, opisuju se protivničke vojske i njihova oprema. U središnjem se dijelu razmatra pozadina samog rata, povod i tijek Jonskog ustanka, te dvije ekspedicije koje je Perzija poduzela protiv Grčke za vrijeme Darija Velikog. U nastavku je obrađena tema bitke na Maratonu, zapovjednici koji su u njoj sudjelovali, ljudstvo, opis bojnog polja, ciljevi obiju strana i tijek bitke. U završnom dijelu se zaokružuje sudbina Atene i Perzije nakon bitke na Maratonu. Opisuju se novonastale promjene.
Abstract (english)
This paper discusses the theme od Greco-Persian wars, more specifically it deals with the first ten years of the war, from the Ionian revolt concluding with the Marathon battle. This war has shaped the world we know today. It clarifies the meaning of Herodotus and his work Histories for interpreting the war itself, and introduces the situation in which two of the most powerful Greek poleis, Sparta and Athens, were in, along with the opposed Persia just before the war broke out, and later the position of the Greeks settled in Asia Minor. Furthermore, it presents the opposing militaries and their equipment. The central part investigates the background of the war, cause and course of the Ionian revolt, as well as two expeditions led by Persia on Greece in the time of Darius the Great. In continuation, the paper deals with the Marathon battle, the main commanders, people, battlefield description, the main goals of opposing sides and the course of the battle. The final part rounds up the destinies of Athens and Persia after Marathon. It describes the changes they underwent.
