The main goal of the conducted research was to determine the means of the implementation of school-based prevention programs in elementary schools. An attempt was made to determine whether an assessment of needs is being carried out as the first step in the implementation of school-based prevention programs and how. Also, the research aims to determine whether the educational staff is familiar with the prevention programs in their schools, as well as are they involved in their implementation. Furthermore, an attempt was made to determine how informed the educational staff is about the prevention of behavioural problems generally. Finally, the research was to determine whether the educational staff is motivated to learn more about the prevention of behavioural problems. The research was conducted on a sample of 54 teachers, school counsellors and headmasters from four elementary schools located in the city of Split and on the island of Korčula. For the purpose of the research, a questionnaire was created and used. The results show that educational staff is mainly familiar with the means of the implementation of school-based prevention programs in their schools and are involved in the implementation itself. It was also found that educational staff is mostly well informed about the prevention of the behavioural problems. Moreover, the results show the need for conduction of an assessment of needs in elementary schools to ensure that school-based prevention programs are coordinated with the needs of its users. There is also a need for more involvement in the implementation of the school-based programs from the teachers. Finally, the results show the need for lifelong learning and improvement of educational staff given the fact that they are constantly facing new challenges in their work.
