Stress is an ubiquitous term nowadays that every individual inevitably experiences. Occupational stress resulting from job dissatisfaction leads to burnout of employees, especially those in supportive professions, which include educators in social care institutions. Although these employees are extremely important and somewhat neglected professions with a very high risk of burnout, so far no research has been conducted that examines the factors of stress or support for these professionals in social care institutions. The aim of the research was to apply the modified MOST questionnaire and define which factors are the most important in contributing to stress and burnout, and which represent the support of the surveyed population with an emphasis on preschool educators in social institutions. The survey involved 85 educators employed in social welfare institutions from all over the Republic of Croatia. The results of the exploratory factor analysis made in the programming language R showed the existence of eight isolated and significant factors, namely: emotional state, protégés and protégés with disabilities, commitment to work, management, colleagues, professional development offered by the city / state, time pressure and security. The results of the research can significantly contribute to the understanding of stressors as well as support factors for educators in social care institutions and expand the understanding of the severity of working conditions in this profession. In the future, they can contribute to their improvement as well as to the facilitation of the above-mentioned experts in the daily dealing with difficult life situations of the most sensitive members of society, our children.
