Autism spectrum disorders are developmental disorders with neurobiological origin whose specific cause remains unknown. The disorder occurs in early childhood and lasts a lifetime. The main symptoms are a lack of verbal and non-verbal communication, especially disorder in the development of speech, bizarre behavior and stereotypy. Due to the diversity in its very clinical picture and the need for individual and personalized approach in education, autism spectrum disorders require a continuous research on efficiency of proven methods. This paper describes the most frequently used methods in practical work with people with autistic disorder. It is these three fields of development which deal with lagging and the presence of symptoms of autism spectrum disorders (communication, speech and behavior) that treatment models are focused on. The paper describes sensory integration as the process of organizing senses in practice. There is a link between sensory integration and autism. Autistic children often have poor sensory integration, meaning their brain has sensory processing issues. This slows them down while trying to study and/or causes problems in behavioural skills. Sensory integration therapy, also described in the paper, is used in work with such children. In kindergarden for children with disabilities ,,Dva prijatelja” (''Two friends"), a girl was tested in order to see whether sensory integration therapy affects observed child's impulse and the activity of cognitive development. The results concluded that after every sensory activity girl showed better attention and was able to be more focused on the given tasks.
