Body perception is a multidimensional concept that includes how one`s own body is percived, what thoughts are associated with it and feeling related to it. It is also subjective, it depends on the individual, how he perceives his own body depending on personal experiences and influences. It is also dynamic, prone to change every day. This change can be related to any influence that an individual can consider relevant and also what message that influence sends to him, or an inevitable change due to the transition from youth to adulthood. Social media currently have primacy over the influence of a group of young people and how they percive their own body. This research was conducted in March 2024 on a convenient sample of 218 young people in Split. The aim was to examine the body perceptions of young people; whether they consider physical appearance important, whether they are satisfied with their appearance and what they consider to have the greatest influence on their perception. Young people in Split who participated in this research consider physical appereance to be important, and are somewhat satisfied with it. In order to improve their sense of satisfaction, they usually engage in some form of physical activity. Although it turned out that young people in Split agree that social media impose idealized standards that are not realistic, they still have the most influence on them. Also, gender differences were observed in body satisfaction, in resorting to activities to improve one`s physical appearance, and in the influence of social media. Statistical test conducted showed that women are less satistied with their physical appearance, that they more often resort to activities to improve it and that they are more influenced by social media than man.
