Because of its significance for education and development, friendship occupies an important place in children's literature in general, and as a theme it often appears in children's plays, therefore the initial hypothesis of this work is - the fertility of the motive of friendship in plays for children. Given that children spontaneously identify with characters from literature, authors often resort to the personification of animals, plants and other concepts from the children's immediate environment in order to problematize important life situations. By assigning different characteristics to different characters, both positive and negative, children are given the opportunity to "experience" problematic situations as well as to see the consequences that certain behavior entails, which has an exceptional educational effect. Under the term friendship, various topics are covered through which children convey different values. The aim of this thesis, for the purpose of which several well-known and performed plays by authors of recent Croatian literature were selected, is to confirm the initial hypothesis, which was achieved, and to emphasize precisely those values that are characteristic of friendly, but also of all important life relationships.
