Abstract
Pedesete godine prošlog stoljeća u hrvatskoj umjetnosti obilježene su nizom novih likovnih pojava, novih početaka i raznih previranja. Kroz cijelo desetljeće pratimo razvoj apstraktne umjetnosti u Hrvatskoj te borbu za slobodu likovnog stvaralaštva unutar političkih prilika u kojima je ona nastajala. Prijelomni trenutak za hrvatsku apstraktnu umjetnost predstavlja pojava grupe EXAT-51 čija je težnja sinteza likovnih umjetnosti u sklopu moderne arhitekture i zalaganja za razvitak industrijskog dizajna. Nakon njihovog proboja slijede dvije značajne izložbe koje su odigrale ključnu ulogu za razumijevanje i afirmaciju apstraktne umjetnosti u Hrvatskoj: Salon 54 i Didaktička izložba. Krajem desetljeća javljaju se novi protagonisti apstraktne umjetnosti koje pratimo kroz pojavu radikalnog i pikturalnog enformela, grupu Gorgona i pokret Nove tendencije. Osim izuzetne angažiranosti umjetnika, značajnu ulogu u cijelom šestom desetljeću odigrali su povjesničari umjetnosti i likovni kritičari koji su sudjelovanjem u raznim polemikama o apstraktnoj umjetnosti i prateći sve likovne manifestacije zasigurno pridonijeli slobodi likovnog stvaralaštva i potpunoj afirmaciji apstraktne umjetnosti u Hrvatskoj.
Abstract (english)
Fifties of the last century were characterized in Croatian art by series of new visual arts, new ideas and various turmoils. During the whole decade it is apparent development of abstract art in Croatia and struggle for freedom of artistic creation under political circumstances. Breaking point of Croatian abstract art represents apparition of the group EXAT-51. Their aspiration was sythesis of visual arts within modern architecture and efforts in development of industrial design. After their breakout two important exhibitions had key role for understanding and affirmation of abstract art in Croatia: Salon 54 and Didactic exhibition. At the end of decade new protagonists of abstract art could be followed trough radical and pictorial enformel, group Gorgona and movement New tendencies. Besides significant engagement of artists, important role during the whole sixth decade had art historians and art critics with their involvement in various polemics about abstract art. Thanks to their participation in all art manifestacions they have contributed to freedom of visual arts and entire afirmation of the abstract art in Croatia.
