Abstract
Vinjani se prvi put spominju 1474. godine u turskom defteru (popisu poreznih obveznika) kao naselje Hercegovačkog sandžaka. Vinjančani, kao i svi ljudi iz tog kraja, govore ikavskom štokavicom, dok je na leksik pak snažno utjecala stoljetna vladavina različitih naroda. S jezičnog aspekta u osnovi nazivlja Vinjani je imenica vino, piće koje se dobiva preradom vinove loze. Prva je škola otvorena tek sredinom dvadesetog stoljeća. Seljaci su tradicionalno štovali sveca zaštitnika svoga sela, svetog Antu, a na dan blagdana priređivalo se veliko slavlje koje su pohodili čak i sumještani iz susjednih sela. Stanovništvo je pod snažnim utjecajem narodne kulturne baštine, pogotovo što se tiče vjerovanja u nadnaravna bića; vile, vještice, vukodlake i druge. Unatoč tomu, stanovništvo je katoličko i izrazito religiozno, iako se miješaju poganski motivi u svakodnevnom životu sa onim kršćanskim; u isto vrijeme moli se večernja molitva i sa strahom ogledava po okolnim mračnim šumama za koje vjeruju da skrivaju nadnaravna bića. Svakodnevnica je prolazila u radu i molitvi, od kojih je nekoliko originalnih i nekoliko već poznatih navedeno u tekstu. Mjesto posustaje u poznavanju naprednih medicinskih dostignuća, te je stanovništvo do prije nekoliko desetljeća umiralo od danas bezazlenih bolesti. Danas je većina stanovništva migrirala u urbane krajeve.
Abstract (english)
The name Vinjani is mentioned for the first time as a part of Turkish defter, which means the list of tax payers, as a part of Hercegovina County. People from the area speak in special dialect called štokavska ikavica, while lexis is influenced by many different languages, depending on the occupator. The first school was opened in the middle of 20th century. Saint patron of Vinjani is Saint Anthony, who is celebrated greatly in the area. People are highly influenced by traditional beliefs especially concerning believing in supernatural beings such as a fairy, werewolves, witches and so on. Despite that fact, people are extremely religious, but still mixing pagan rituals with Catholicism. The focal point of everyday life was prayer and hard labour; some of already known and some new, original prayers are mentioned in the text. Achievements of the modern medicine were not used in Vinjani until recently, so people were dying from today harmless diseases. Most of the population migrated to the urban areas.
