Abstract | Tema mog diplomskog rada će pokriti sociološke, psihološke i filozofske aspekte kroz sedam dijelova romana o Harryju Potteru. Kad mu više nisu potrebni, on ih se riješi. Harry Potter skriva mnoge poruke bitne za razumijevanje života i zato bi djeca uz uživljavanje u avanture i pustolovine trebala pokušati pronaći dublje razumijevanje, a za to im mogu pomoći roditelji i učitelji koji također mogu nešto naučiti iz ovih romana. |
Abstract (english) | The topic of my master thesis will cover sociological, psychological, and philosophical implications through seven sequels of Harry Potter. While Harry develops through his adolescence, he learns to conquer the problems he faces: magical, social, and emotional, including everyday teen challenges such as friendship, falling in love, school, exams, stress, and conflicts in the real world. Just as we have different relationships with people, likewise wizards have different relationships between them. Behaving according to those relationships implies discrimination, just like in our world. The only difference is that in the wizarding world one deals with the number of pure-blood wizards in the family. We have discrimination according to skin color, origin, richness, religion, nationality, employment etc. The only difference from our world, therefore, is discrimination according to blood status. Some Christians are against reading Harry Potter novels because they think that they possibly lead children to the loss of faith. In this thesis I have stated their reasons, but also opinions of other Christians who found some allusions to Jesus Christ, which is why they have a totally different opinion. Love is a part of our lives. There are different kinds of love - family love, friendly love and romantic love between a man and a woman. Family love is the first love we meet and because of it, we become what we become. Harry's mother gave her life to protect her son and she transferred that love to him. Because of her love and her sacrifice, he loves life and everything that is given to him. He loves his friends, people who are like family to him and at 6 the end he is ready to give his life for all of them, like his mother gave her life for him. That love he received and conveyed helped him to conquer the greatest Dark Wizard in the world. Death is a natural part of every life. Every human being deals with it on his own way. Both Harry and Voldemort lost their mothers while they were young, but they accepted that very differently. Harry tried to use life on every possible way - he loved, had friends, found a new substitute family - and accepted death as something inevitable, while Voldemort was afraid of death and looked for the ways to overcome it. In that attempt to become immortal he did not have time for others, he did not meet love and that cost him his life. Understanding of death and its acceptance is connected with decisions we make. We are free beings and we make choices for ourselves. Harry achieved control over his life. He lived it and fought for it in every possible way and then he decided to sacrifice himself for the sake of others. Voldemort is led by fear of death. All decisions he made was out of fear not to die and that is why he has no control over his life. The difference between Harry and Voldemort is also in the number of friends. Harry found friends who are loyal to him, he can lean on them, they are always there with him and they are ready to help him with his efforts. They have different interests, but each of them brings something meaningful into their friendship. Voldemort, on the other side, has no friends, but servants who are there to obey him. When they are not needed anymore, he destroys them. Harry Potter hides many meaningful messages which are essential for understanding life. Apart from enjoying adventures, children should try to understand it more deeply. Their parents and teachers can help them achieve that, but they too have the opportunity to learn something from Harry Potter novels. |
