Abstract Glavni je fokus ovoga rada analiza i usporedba odabranih filmskih adaptacija suvremenih hrvatskih romana. Odabrane su adaptacije U raljama života (nastala prema romanu Štefica Cvek u raljama života autorice Dubravke Ugrešić), Ne dao Bog većeg zla (nastala prema istoimenom romanu Gorana Tribusona) te Metastaze ( nastala prema istoimenom romanu Alena Bovića; pseudonim autora Ive Balenovića). Strukturu rada čine uvod, analiza te zaključak, uz popis literature i sažetak. Uvodni dio sadrži metodologije te poglavlje o odnosu između književnosti i filma. Analiza se sastoji od četiri potpoglavlja, tri nose naziv adaptacije koja se u tome poglavlju, a četvrto potpoglavlje donosi usporedbu adaptacija. Analiza adaptacija temelji se na istraživačkim pitanjima koja se tiču radnje, likova, kronotopa te politike reprezentacije društvenih problema. Usporedba se temelji na usporedbi predloška i adaptacije te adaptacija međusobno. Sve tri adaptacije zadržavaju kronotop romana, a mijenjaju radnju i/ili njezine elemente. U raljama života mijenja narativ romana dodajući fikcionalni okvir priči o Štefici Cvek, pretvarajući Šteficu u lik u televizijskoj seriji čije snimanje gledamo u filmu. Novi narativ donosi dodatan društveno-politički sloj kojim se implicitno komentira stanje umjetnosti i figura umjetničkog kritičara u službi dominante pol. ideologije. Ne dao Bog većeg zla je film o odrastanju u razdoblju 50-ih i 60-ih godina 20. st. Kroz prizmu pop-kulturnih elemenata, glavni lik Siniša, odrasta te završava gimnaziju. Za razliku od romana, u filmu je izborom glazbene podloge te scenografijom izražena atmosfera nostalgije. Metastaze prikazuju svakodnevni život grupe prijatelja iz Zagreba, a radnja je smještena u razdoblje ranih 2000-ih godina. Sirovim i realnim prikazom svakodnevice obilježene nasiljem i besciljnošću, gledatelj istodobno dobiva uvid u urbanu dekadenciju Zagreba. Usporedba adaptacija ukazala je na njihovu žanrovsku različitost, ali i sličnost u dodavanju novog značenjskog sloja vezanog uz reprezentaciju društvenih problema. U zaključku se navodi da rad predstavlja mali doprinos proučavanju adaptacija, području koje sve više raste i zasigurno otkriva nove pristupe.
Abstract (english) The main focus of this work is the analysis and comparison of selected film adaptations of contemporary Croatian novels. The selected adaptations are: In the Jaws of Life (based on the novel Štefica Cvek in the Jaws of Life by Dubravka Ugrešić), Ne dao Bog većeg zla (God Forbid a Worse Thing Should Happen based on the novel of the same name by Goran Tribuson) and Metastases (based on the novel of the same name by Alen Bović; pseudonym of the author Ivo Balenović). The structure of the paper consists of an introduction, analysis and conclusion, along with a list of references and a summary. The introductory part contains the methodology and a chapter on the relationship between literature and film. The analysis consists of four subchapters, three of which are named after the selected adaptations, and the fourth subchapter which provides a comparison of adaptations. The analysis of adaptations is based on research questions concerning the plot, characters, chronotope and the politics of representation of social problems. The adaptations are compared to each other, but also to the novel they adapted. All three adaptations retain the chronotope of the novel, but change the plot and/or its elements. In the Jaws of Life changes the narrative of the novel by adding a fictional framework to the story of Štefica Cvek, transforming Štefica into a character in the television series whose shooting we see in the film. The new narrative brings an additional socio-political layer that implicitly comments on the state of art and the figure of the art critic that aligns with dominant political ideologies. God Forbid a Worse Thing Should Happen is a film about growing up in the 1950s and 60s Through the prism of pop-cultural elements, the main character Siniša grows up and finishes gymnasium. Unlike the novel, in the film the atmosphere of nostalgia is expressed through the soundtrack and scenography. Metastases shows the everyday life of a group of misfit friends from Zagreb, and the plot is set in the period of the early 2000s. With a raw and realistic depiction of everyday life marked by violence and aimlessness, the viewer simultaneously gets an insight into the urban decadence of Zagreb. The comparison of the adaptations pointed to their genre diversity, but also their similarity in adding a new layer of meaning, which is related to the representation of social problems. In the conclusion, it is stated that the work represents a small contribution to the study of adaptations, a field that is increasingly growing which could certainly yield new approaches.
