Abstract
Koncept otpornosti prepoznat je u psihologiji još od druge polovice 20. stoljeća, opisujući dobru prilagodbu usprkos izloženosti riziku i negativnim životnim okolnostima. Unatoč dugoj tradiciji istraživanja u području razvojne psihopatologije i traumatologije te sve većem razumijevanju temeljnih odrednica otpornosti, područje je opterećeno teorijskim prijeporima koji usporavaju njegov razvoj, ali ne umanjuju sve veći istraživački i praktični interes, osobito u zaštiti mentalnog zdravlja. Otpornost je aktivan razvojni proces, ovisan o međudjelovanju čimbenika na više razina. Upravo dinamična kvaliteta koncepta otvara mogućnost za terapijsko djelovanje i kreiranje programa za osnaživanje individualne otpornosti kod pojedinaca s povišenim rizikom za psihičku bolest. U ovom radu sveobuhvatno je prikazan koncept psihološke otpornost i razvoja teorijskih spoznaja, no i praktičnih implikacija u kliničkoj psihologiji i psihijatriji. Naglašeno je kako jačanje različitih čimbenika otpornosti može doprinijeti ostvarenju pozitivnih životnih ishoda, kao i boljoj prognozi ozbiljnih psihičkih bolesti, što predstavlja važan iskorak prema poboljšanju kliničke prakse.
Abstract (english)
The concept of resilience, describing the phenomenon of successful adaptation despite risk and adversity, has been recognized in psychology since the second half of the 20th century and researched in fields of developmental psychopathology and traumatology. Despite the increase in understanding the basic determinants of resilience, there are still major theoretical discrepancies in defining resilience, which compromises the development of the field, but with growing interest in its usage in mental health care. Resilience is an active and developmental process, dependent on the interaction of multilevel factors. The dynamic nature of resilience opens up the possibility of intervention and implementing programs to enhance resilience in individuals at increased risk for mental illness. This paper brings a comprehesive review of the concept of psychological resilience and the development of theorethical framework, as well as practical implications for clinical psychology and psychiatry. It is highlighted how strengthening the various resilience factors can contribute to positive life outcomes and a better prognosis of serious psychiatric illnesses, which is an important step towards improving clinical practice
