Abstract (english) | Self-compassion is a newer construct that has been proven to be very important across various areas of human life including mental health, psychological resilience, and responsible behavior towards oneself and others. Recent studies have focused on exploring this construct in the context of motivation, success, and perceived competence, which can be particularly important in terms of academic efficiency. Therefore, the aim of this research was to examine the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics, academic average, self-compassion, and academic self-efficacy in Croatian students. We applied a questionnaire containing the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), the Self-Efficacy Scale (MSLQ), as well as questions related to academic success and sociodemographic data, on a sample of 253 Croatian students. The results indicate a significant difference in academic average between male and female students, with higher averages observed among female students. Additionally, a positive correlation was detected between age and self-compassion and academic self-efficacy, a positive correlation between academic average and academic self-efficacy, self-compassion, and academic self-efficacy, as well as a negative correlation between self-compassion and academic average achieved. Conducted hierarchical regression analysis revealed a significant independent contribution of age, academic achievement and self-compassion variables in predicting academic self-efficacy, explaining a total of 17.03% of the criterion variance |
