In the 1970s, a significant number of hotels were constructed in Croatia, primarily along the Adriatic coast, which was a greater tourist attraction due to its seaside location. The planning of these hotels included interior design, characterized by the use of local materials such as stone and greenery on the coast, and wood in the northern regions. The interiors were decorated to complement the design of lighting fixtures and furniture, featuring numerous abstract elements and geometric shapes. This design approach reflected the influence of high art of that era, particularly the New Tendencies movement, whose members often participated in hotel interior design. These artists works, mainly large-format abstract paintings and sculptures, were commonly displayed within the hotel spaces. Moreover, artists and designers sometimes contributed to the creation of the hotels graphic design, such as signs, brochures, and other promotional materials. Over the years, hotels built in the 1970s have undergone extensive renovations, both in interior and exterior, as well as name changes. Following the Croatian War of Independence, some hotels were left to deteriorate due to ownership issues, while others were renovated, and today only fragments of the original 1970s interiors have been preserved.
