The aim of this thesis is to analyze the english loanwords that appear in the spoken corpora of the Croatian and Slovenian languages and to investigate the reasons for their borrowing. In the theoretical part, we provide a historical overview of language borrowing and describe the process of language borrowing itself. Then is described the process of adaptation of loanwords on the phonological, morphological and semantic level. We continue with the description of the most common reasons for language borrowing and defining anglicisms and pseudo-anglicisms. The next chapter deals with code-switching as a phenomenon that is often confused with the phenomenon of borrowing. We will describe the types of code switching and more clearly define the difference between the two phenomena. In the last theoretical chapter, we will define the language of young people and the social platforms from which we collected our speech corpus. In the second, practical part, we will describe the methodology and analyze the collected data. As material for research and analysis of english loanwords, we will use the collected speech corpus of the Slovenian and Croatian languages, which will be coded according to pre-established criteria so that the analysis can be carried out. We will define the collected loanwords, describe the process of their adaptation and provide examples of sentences that we have previously collected. Next, we will analyze the sentences in which code switching is recorded. We will investigate which type of code switching is most common in the Croatian and Slovenian languages and give examples for each type. After the presented results of the analysis, the final chapter of the paper with the most important conclusions follows.
