Abstract
Ovaj diplomski rad sadrži pet prijevoda s komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski jezik (Eden, Caroline. 2020. Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland.; Nodelman, Perry. 2008. The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature., Winterson, Jeanette. 2021. 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next.) i iz dviju knjiga s hrvatskog na engleski jezik (Topić, Nikolina. 2022/2023. Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza.; Simić, Roman. 2021. Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag.). Komentari su usredotočeni na pojam semantičke varijabilnosti unutar polja semantike, a taj se pojam odnosi na pojavu u kojoj riječ ili izraz ima više značenja, tumačenja ili upotreba ovisno o kontekstu u kojemu se rabi. Semantička varijabilnost može predstavljati značajne izazove u prevođenju jer bi jedan pojam ili izraz na jednom jeziku mogao zahtijevati poseban način prevođenja na drugi jezik.
Abstract (english)
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Eden, Caroline. 2020. Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland.; Nodelman, Perry. 2008. The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature., Winterson, Jeanette. 2021. 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next.), and excerpts from two other books were translated from Croatian into English (Topić, Nikolina. 2022/2023. Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza.; Simić, Roman. 2021. Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag.). The commentary focused on the notion of semantic variability within the field of semantics, referring to the phenomenon where a word or expression has multiple meanings, interpretations, or uses depending on the context in which it is used. This variability can pose significant challenges in translation because a single term or phrase in one language might require a specific way of being translated into another language.
