Abstract
Ovaj rad bavi se hrvanjem, jednim od najdominantnijih i najzastupljenijih sportova u Osmanskom Carstvu. Kroz stoljeća su kroz ovaj sport prikazivana sportska, nacionalna, kulturološka i povijesna obilježja naroda koji su živjeli na području Carstva. On je uspio odoljeti raznim promjenama koje su zahvatile Carstvo i njegove stanovnike i zadržati svoj izvorni oblik uz određenu modernizaciju što ga i danas čini neizostavnim djelom velike turske, ali i svjetske povijesti. Hrvački su mečevi bili priređivani u čast raznim dužnosnicima, diplomatima i počasnim gostima. Održavali bi se za vrijeme gotovo svih svečanosti, a obožavali su ga i sultani koji su nerijetko i sami bili vrsni hrvači. Sve ovo pokazuje njegov značaj u sportskom, ali i kulturološkom životu Osmanskog Carstva koji je vidljiv i danas.
Abstract (english)
Topic of this paper is wrestling, one of Ottoman Empires most dominant and represented sports. Throughout the centuries this sport showed sporting, national, cultural and historical characteristics of the nations that lived on the territory of the Empire. Wrestling managed to resist multiple changes that affected the Empire and its inhabitants and keep its original form and rules with a touch of modernization, which even today makes this sport an indispensable source and piece of great Turkish and world history. Wrestling matches were held in honour of various officials, diplomats and honoured guests. They would be held during almost all festivities and wrestling was adored by sultans who were quite often excellent wrestlers themselves. All this shows the significance of this sport in sporting but also in cultural life of the Ottoman Empire, which is still visible to this very day.
