Abstract
Friends is an American television sitcom that went on air from 1994-2004. It was created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman which starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer in the main roles. The series itself follows the daily lives of the main cast through humoristic events. This paper will focus on the analysis of fifth season of the show, with main goal of exploring how humor in the TV sitcom works through breaking of the Grice’s maxims and the usage of humor theories, where it overall creates a unique type of humor. This paper seeks to find examples of broken maxims, how they influence the entirety of the conversation in which they are found and finally, how the breaking of maxims creates the unique humor that these characters have become famous for through different theories of humor. Prior to the analysis, a theoretical background will set the framework through which lenses the humor of Friends as a TV show will be observed, which will be explained in different chapters, all of which will deal with different aspects of humor that is presented in the 5th season of the TV show.

Prijatelji je američka humoristična serija koja se snimala od 1994. do 2004. godine. Seriju su napisali David Crane i Marta Kauffman, glavni glumci serije su: Jennifer Anniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Le Blanc, Matthew Perry i David Schwimmer. Serija prati zgode i nezgode 6 prijatelja u svakodnevnim životnim situacijama kroz brojne humoristične događaje. Ovaj rad se fokusira na petoj sezoni serije, te je glavni cilj istražiti kako funkcionira humor u tv serijama kroz kršenje Griceovih maksima i korištenje teorija humora, koje u kombinaciji stvaraju jedinstvenu vrstu humora. U radu pronalazimo primjere prekršenih maksima te kako iste utječu na tijek razgovora u kojem su prekršene, te kako taj isti proces stvara jedinstven humor uz pomoć teorija humora, zbog kojih su ovi glavni likovi postali tako poznati u svijetu humorističnih serija i humora općenito.
