Abstract
U ovom diplomskom radu uspoređuju su konceptualne metafore u govorima američkih i ruskih političara iz perioda Hladnog rata i Krimske krize. Sukladno tome, rad sadrži tri cilja: prvi je istražiti različitih aspekata konceptualnih metafora u političkom diskursu, s obzirom na izvornu domenu metafora te razinu konvencionalnosti i hotimičnosti, za koje se pretpostavlja da su slične u ruskom i engleskom jeziku, zahvaljujući univerzalnosti ljudskog kognitivnog sustava. Drugi je cilj proučiti način na koji svrha teksta utječe na odabir konceptualnih metafora, dok je treći cilj utvrditi utječe li vrijeme na oblik i način uporabe konceptualnih metafora i na koji način. Ovo istraživanje počiva na ideji iz kognitivne lingvistike prema kojoj su ljudski kognitivni sustav i iskustvo života univerzalni, zbog čega se naša percepcija svijeta oko nas može opisati na sličan način, bez obzira na jezik govornika. Cilj analize konceptualnih metafora u političkim govorima je pokazati kako se određeni događaji odražavaju u jeziku, s obzirom na temu, svrhu i period nastanka govora, dok komparativna analiza jezika omogućuje da dobijemo uvid u način na koji naš kognitivni sustav, iskustvo i kultura utječu na naše viđenje svijeta.
Abstract (english)
This master’s thesis compares conceptual metaphors in speeches given by American and Russian politicians during the Cold War and the Ukraine Crisis. The thesis has three main aims. The first is to examine different aspects of conceptual metaphors in the political discourse regarding their source domain, level of conventionality and deliberacy, which are believed to be similar in all speeches and both languages. The second aim is to see how the purpose of the text influences the choice of conceptual metaphors. The third aim is to explore whether and how time affects the form and usage of conceptual metaphors. This study relies on the cognitive linguistic claim that the human cognitive system and the experience of life is universal, which is why our perception of the world can be described similarly, regardless of the language. The analysis of conceptual metaphors in political speeches attempts to show how certain events are reflected in language with regards to the topic, purpose and period of the speech, whereas a comparative study of languages helps us gain insight into how our cognitive system, experience and culture affect how we view the world around us.
