Abstract
Knjiga Manufacturing Consent: the Political Economy of the Mass Media Noama Chomskog i Edwarda Hermana svoje prvo izdanje doživjela je 1988. godine, a služila je kao i svojevrsan početak kritike masovnih medija koju Chomsky i dalje istražuje.. Knjiga je temeljena na propagandnom modelu kojem je glavni cilj proizvodnja pristanka javnosti u svrhu podilaženja svjetskim elitama. Ovo je bila prva u nizu knjiga koje potpisuje Noam Chomsky, a tiču se kritike američke vanjske politike i koncentracije moći kao i utjecaja na masovne medije. Cilj ovog rada je pobliže objasniti princip funkcioniranja propagandnog modela i njegovih filtera kao i njegov utjecaj na javnost i oblikovanje javnog mišljenja. U prvom dijelu rada određeni su bitni pojmovi za shvaćanje modela nakon čega slijedi samo pojašnjenje modela uz primjere koji su rezultat iscrpnog istraživanja koje su proveli njegovi autori. Drugi dio odnosi se na kritike modela te njegovu prihvaćenost, kao i mogućnost daljnje razrade kako bi model bio primijenjiv i dan danas.
Abstract (english)
Manufacturing Consent: the Political Economy of the Mass Media is a book by Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman which was first published in 1988. This publication was only the beginning of the mass media critique that Chomsky continues to research. The book is based on a propaganda model whose main goal is to manufacture consent of the public for the purpose of appeasing the world's elites. This was the first book which is signed by Noam Chomsky and addresses criticism of American foreign policy and the concentration of power as well as the influence it has on mass media. The main goal of this paper is to explain the main principle of functioning of the propaganda model and its filters as well as its impact on the public and the formation of public opinion. In the first part of the paper, important concepts for understanding the model are defined, followed by an explanation of a propaganda model and with examples that are the result of extensive and detailed research conducted by the authors. The second part refers to the criticism of the model and its acceptance, as well as the possibility of further elaboration in order for the model to be applicable today.
