Abstract
This thesis comprises six translations with commentary. Excerpts from four books were translated from English into Croatian (A University Education by David Willetts, United States Foreign Policy and National Identity in the Twenty-First Century by Kenneth Christie, Bullying and Victimization Across the Lifespan: Playground Politics by Paul R. Smokowski and Caroline B. R. Evans and Power and Stereotyping: The Politics of Representation by Michael Pickering), and two from Croatian into English (Sjećanje šume by Damir Karakaš and Faust Vrančić – Portret izumitelja by Marijana Borić). The commentary is focused on explicitation as a translation strategy and a tool that translators use to facilitate the translation process. Explicitation has been regarded as one of the translation universals, a strategy inherent to every translation process. The commentary section explores the ways in which explicitation can be present in translations. Also, the development of explicitation as a concept and its many definitions are discussed in the commentary.

Ovaj rad sadrži šest prijevoda s popratnim komentarima. Ulomci iz četiri knjige prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski (A University Education, David Willetts; United States Foreign Policy and National Identity in the Twenty-First Century, Kenneth Christie; Bullying and Victimization Across the Lifespan: Playground Politics, Paul R. Smokowski i Caroline B. R. Evans; Power and Stereotyping: The Politics of Representation, Michael Pickering), a s hrvatskog na engleski prevedeni su ulomci iz dvije knjige (Sjećanje šume, Damir Karakaš; Faust Vrančić – Portret izumitelja, Marijana Borić). Komentari su usmjereni na explicitaciju kao strategiju kojom se prevoditelji služe pri prevođenju tekstova. Ona je jedna od strategija koja je neraskidivo vezana za i prisutna tijekom svakog procesa prevođenja. Između ostalog, u komentarima se spominju različite definicije eksplicitacije koje su se javljale tijekom desetljeća, razvoj eksplicitacije kao koncepta te razvoj prevoditeljskih stavova o eksplicitaciji.
