This final paper explores new words in Swedish from 2010 to 2019. One of the most important sources and the foundation for this paper are the lists of new words published by the Swedish Institute for Language and Folklore. With the help of other sources that are related to new words in Swedish, a clearer picture is created of what happens when new words are integrated (into the new language – in case of loan words). This is achieved by providing examples from the lists of new words, as well as the theoretical background from the literature. New words are analyzed in terms of the word class, word formation processes and the source language. In addition, this paper aims to check whether nouns are the most common word class among neologisms in Swedish, whether compounding is the most common word formation process and if the English language is the one that Swedish borrows from the most. These are the three main assumptions in this paper. A total of 460 new words (neologisms) were collected as the material for analysis. The results prove that all three assumptions are correct i.e. that nouns prevail among new words in Swedish, that compounding is the most common word formation process and that most loan words originate from English.
