Music scenes represent one of the key elements within the sociology of music. As complex social formations, which bring together a wide range of interconnected elements, they provide a source for numerous researches. Scenes consist of many connected parts that must communicate and cooperate with each other in order for the scene as a common interest to develop, but also to exist. In this research, we focus on alternative rock bands in Zagreb, on actors who are directly involved in the creation and development of music scenes. The local scene is very closely connected with the centers of interest, which include various spaces for concerts, festivals, but also spaces for rehearsals of bands, which are a necessary resource for the development of the scene. By mapping the key centers of interest of alternative rock bands in Zagreb, we found out whether the local scene in Zagreb is dislocated in several parts of the city, as well as whether it faces the problem of temporality and insecurity. There is also a general question of the current importance of rock music within the local scene in Zagreb. The research also raises the question of the importance of the local context for bands, as well as the possibility of the survival of local scenes despite the growing development of virtual scenes online. Local is the starting point for the emergence of music scenes, so although bands can focus exclusively on the online environment, we still believe that the importance of the local context, in the creation and distribution of music, is by no means negligible.
