Performance anxiety and public speaking anxiety are irrational and uncomfortable feelings which occur when performing in front of an audience. They are often accompanied by characteristic manifestations which can hinder a person from achieving desired goals in life. The extraversion-introversion personality dimension describes people with respect to the need for social interaction. Extraverts prefer social interactions, while introverts prefer to spend time alone. This thesis describes the basic theoretical determinants of performance anxiety and public speaking anxiety and the personality dimension of extraversion-introversion. A research was conducted among the student population to examine the relationship between the public speaking anxiety and the personality dimension. Public speaking anxiety can be a great obstacle during students´ education and can even condition career choices, but also affect the quality of life. Data analysis revealed significant positive correlations between the extraversion-introversion personality dimension and the number of different public performance and public speaking experiences as well as between the current age of the participants and the current year of study. The results have shown negative correlations between fear and the examined personality dimension, and between fear and the number of public performance and public speaking experiences. The analysis also revealed significant differences between individual groups. Since public performance and public speaking are present in various aspects of people's lives, this thesis offers techniques and guidelines for overcoming this fear, but also emphasizes the importance of implementing this skill in education.
