Abstract
Cilj ovog diplomskog rada je istražiti koje će se konceptualne metafore pojaviti u političkim novinskim člancima u Aftonbladetu. Kako bi smo razumjeli konceptualne metafore započinjem s Aristotelovom teorijom o metafori koja je uvelike utjecala na filozofiju, retoriku i književnost. Nakon Aristotela spominjem Ivora Armstronga Richardsa koji je među prvima definirao kognitivnu stranu metafore. George Lakoff i Mark Johnsson definiraju konceptualnu metaforu unutar kognitivne lingvistike. Za novinske članke s političkim sadržajem bitan je politički diskurs kojeg ukratko definiram kroz njegove autore i ciljne skupine. Nakon toga u radu opisujem dvije metode za analizu metafora – MIP (Metaphor Indetification Procedure) i MPI (Metaphor Power Index). MIP je metoda koju je razvila grupa lingvista pod nazivom Pragglejaz, a cilj im je bio razviti metodu pomoću koje možemo prepoznati jesu li leksičke jedinice u nekom tekstu ili govoru metaforičke ili ne. Christ'l de Landtsheer je detaljno opisala drugu metodu, odnosno MPI metodu koja omogućuje kvantificiranje emocionalne snage nekog govora ili teksta u političkom diskursu. Na kraju predstavljam istraživanje na vlastitom korpusu u koji su ušli politički novinski članci koji su objavljeni u razdoblju između 25.3. i 31.3.2019.godine. Na svoj korpus primjenjujem MIP i MPI metodu te ukratko spominjem probleme koji su se pojavili prilikom korištenja istih. Na kraju rada predstavljam rezultate svog istraživanja.
Abstract (english)
The aim of this thesis is to research which conceptual metaphors will appear in political newspaper articles in Aftonbladet. To understand conceptual metaphors, I begin with Aristotle’s theory of metaphor which greatly influenced philosophy, rhetoric, and literature. After Aristotle I mention Ivor Armstrong Richards who was among the first ones to define the cognitive side of metaphor. George Lakoff and Mark Johnsson define conceptual metaphor within cognitive linguistics. For newspaper articles with political content, political discourse is important, which I briefly define through its authors and target groups. After that, I describe two methods for metaphor analysis - MIP (Metaphor Indetification Procedure) and MPI (Metaphor Power Index). MIP is a method developed by a group of linguists called Pragglejaz, and their goal was to develop a method by which we can recognize whether lexical units in a text or speech are metaphorical or not. Christ'l de Landtsheer described in detail another method, the MPI method, which makes it possible to quantify the emotional power of a speech or text in political discourse. Finally, I present my research that included political newspaper articles published between March 25 and March 31, 2019. I apply the MIP and MPI method and I briefly mention the problems that arose while using them. At the end of the thesis I present the results of my research.
