Abstract
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Spitfire: A Very British Love Story, Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones, You Are What You Read: Why Changing Your Media Diet Can Change the World), and two from Croatian into English (Fiumanski, opet lažeš, Znanstvena istraživanja jezika i prevođenja). The commentary focused on different problems that appeared during the translation process which required serious consideration. Most issues have been connected to terminology, style, mental images and cultural and linguistic differences between the source language and culture and the target language and culture. The commentary aims to further explain the translator’s decisions and the decision-making process itself. Reliable and expert sources have been used as assistance. The highest possible quality of the translations was aimed to be achieved.

Ovaj rad sastoji se od 5 prijevoda s popratnim komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog jezika na hrvatski (Spitfire: A Very British Love Story, Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones, You Are What You Read: Why Changing Your Media Diet Can Change the World), a iz dviju knjiga s hrvatskog na engleski (Fiumanski, opet lažeš, Znanstvena istraživanja jezika i prevođenja). Komentari su usredotočeni na razne probleme koji su se pojavili tijekom procesa prevođenja, a koji su zahtijevali pomno razmatranje. Većina spornih situacija odnosila se na terminologiju, stilska obilježja, mentalne slike te kulturne i lingvističke razlike između jezika i kulture izvornika i jezika i kulture teksta prijevoda. Komentarima se nastoje dodatno pojasniti prevoditeljeve odluke te kako je tekao sam proces donošenja odluka. Kao pomoć pri donošenju odluka, korišteni su pouzdani i stručni izvori. Tijekom prevođenja nastojala se postići najviša moguća kvaliteta prijevoda.
