Prosody consists of those features of speech that relate to the sound side of word expression. Prosodic features are non-lexical features of expression that determine human speech and contribute to the understanding of the message. There is a great variety of terms, definitions and lists of prosodic features. Petar Guberina talks about them for the first time in Croatian phonetics. He calls them values of the spoken language, lists seven of them and divides them into acoustic and visual. Ivo Škarić introduces the name prosodic features and mentions ten. This paper analyzes the ways of teaching prosodic features in primary and high school textbooks and workbooks. According to the new curriculum of the subject Croatian language from 2019, prosodic features are taught in the eighth grade of primary school and in the second grade of high school. Textbooks have been analyzed through four components: terminology, definition, list, and processing. The research has shown numerous problems and omissions in the processing of prosodic features. Two terms are used in textbooks to denote prosodic features - values of the spoken language and spoken values. All textbooks share six prosodic features. Terminology and list are similar in all textbooks. Processing is superficial and undeveloped. There is a lack of definitions, explanations, and examples. Exercises for practicing prosodic features, especially intonation, are also missing lacking. Suggestions for improving this teaching material have been presented.
