Abstract
Karel Kryl bio je vodeća figura češke kantautorske poezije koja je u vrijeme komunističke Čehoslovačke zastupala alternativnu politiku, ponajviše nakon 1968. godine, odnosno nakon gušenja Praškoga proljeća. U okviru kantautorske poezije razvio se protest song kao forma društveno-političke pjesme, a Kryl je bio među prvima koji je počeo njegovati takav oblik pjesme. S ciljem osvjetljavanja svih nijansi Krylova stvaralaštva, ovaj rad detaljno objašnjava uzajamni odnos politike i glazbe, otkiva tko su osobe koje se naziva(lo) bardima, definira pojmove poput folk-glazbe, kantautorskoga stvaralaštva, protest songa, a potom to primjenjuje pri interpretaciji Krylovih pjesama koje su se našle na njegovu prvom (možda i najpoznatijem) albumu Bratříčku, zavírej vrátka. Kao i mnogi drugi koji su svoj glas dali u borbi protiv opresivnoga režima, Kryl je bio prisiljen emigrirati zbog političkoga pritiska 1969. godine, ali svoju je borbu nastavio i u inozemstvu, pružajući svojim sunarodnjacima nadu i vjeru u bolje sutra. Na kraju, rad želi pokazati zašto Karela Kryla možemo s pravom nazivati bardom češkoga protest songa.
Abstract (english)
Karel Kryl was the leading singer-songwriter in communist Czechoslovakia. During that time, he represented alternative politics, especially after year 1968 when the movement of Prague spring was suffocated. He was one of the first to explore and develop the music form of protest songs, which were politicly and socially charged. To explain all the nuances in the work of Karel Kryl, this paper explains terms such as a protest song, folk music, who is a singer-songwriter, who is a bard and lastly, how music and politics have often influenced each other. All of this will be utilized in the analysis of Kryl’s first album Bratříčku, zavírej vrátka. The end goal of this paper is to prove why we can call Karel Kryl a bard of the Czech protest song.
