Abstract
Pojam lažnih vijesti odnose se na svaki oblik neistine ili neprovjerenih informacija koji se predstavlja kao vijest. Iako se lažne vijesti pojavljuju u gotovo svakom vremenskom periodu, o njima se počelo raspravljati tek za vrijeme američkih predsjedničkih izbora 2016. godine, kada je Donald Trump popularizirao ovaj pojam. Njegov negativan stav prema medijima utjecao je na manjak povjerenja američkih građana prema službenim izvorima vijesti. Razvoj tehnologije imao je važnu ulogu u stvaranju velikih količina lažnih vijesti, posebice na društvenim mrežama, koje su slulžile kao platforma za širenje neprovjerenih informacija velikim količinama ljudi. Lažne vijesti mogu se stvarati s ciljem obmane, utjecaja na javno mnijenje, ostvarivanja političkih ciljeva, kao i zbog novaca. Monetizacija vijesti uzrokovana oglašavanjem na internetu dodatno je potaknula stvaranje lažnih vijesti, te ujedno imala nepobitan utjecaj na tradicionalne medije i njihov odnos prema samom informiranju javnosti. Iako se razvijaju razne metode za prepoznavanje i prevenciju lažnih vijesti na internetu, sama količina informacija koje se na njemu nalaze predstavljaju veliku prepreku u borbi protiv lažnih vijesti.
Abstract (english)
The term fake news refers to any form of falsehoods or unproven information that are presented as news. Although they can be found across history, fake news have not been a widely discussed issue until the 2016 United States presidential election, when Donald Trump popularized the term. His negative attitute towards the media had an influence on American citizens and their general lack of trust towards verified news sources. The advancements in modern technology played an important role in creating large amounts of fake news, especially on social networks, which served as a platform for spreading unproven information to a very large number of people. Fake news can be created to deceive, influence the public opinion, achieve certain political objectives, or to make money. The monetization of news caused by online advertising further motivated the creation of fake news, and had an undeniable impact on traditional media, and its approach to informing the public. Although various methods for recognizing and preventing fake news online are still being developed, the very amount of information online still represents a major obstacle in the war on fake news.
