The aims of the research were to explore how Polish culture is learned in the classes of the Polish Complementary School in Zagreb and to analyze the role of The School in shaping and cherishing the Polish identity of its students. The research explores the elements of Polish culture present in the teaching program, following the theoretical background on identity, language, and culture. The School practices the C model for minority group education, which in practice means that the classes are not mandatory and that they are conducted in the language of the minority group. Considering that the classes are held on Saturdays, the research explores the students' motivation and suggests that their interest is maintained by the joint efforts of their parents and subject teachers. Thanks to the close collaboration of The School with the Polish cultural association “Mikołaj Kopernik”, the students often have an opportunity to participate in meetings with Polish contemporary writers and other people involved in the field of culture. There are numerous school activities through which students gain knowledge about the Polish culture described in this research: the preparations of the school plays, movie recording, historical and art workshops before the important Polish holidays, school trips, and outdoor classroom projects. The research suggests that the greatest part of the traditional culture is present within those school activities, both the tangible (the national costume) and the intangible (singing traditional songs, making paper cutouts and Easter palms).
