In this seminar I was studying translating and translating based on the drama ”Fröken Julie” by August Strindberg, and its Croatian translation, “Gospođica Julija”. Firstly, I studied the translating of texts in general, distinguishing it from the interpretation of a text. Then, I payed attention to the translation processes, which they are and what distinguishes them from one another, with focus on two main aspects – is the focus on the language we are translating from or the language we are translating to. Next part is about translating literary texts, what is it important to pay attention to, like grammar and syntax. The last part I studied before going to the examples of the drama is the translating of dramatic texts, ie which things should be respected while doing so, and so on. In some examples of parts of the drama “Fröken Julie” and Croatian version “Gospođica Julija” I compared the means by which the translation came to be and the differences between the Swedish, original version, and the Croatian translation. While doing that I mentioned the processes of translating which were used and other things by which the translation matches, or don’t match, its original.
